random experimentation

this week sabbatical week, means no official lesson for one week. so today i conducted a lame experiment at home:
hypothesis: a substance given out when HCl and NaClO reacts causes paper clip to rust.
items needed:
dilute HCl,
dilute NaClO
metal paper clips
test-tubes
plastic container
Steps taken:
1. Pour some dilute HCl into a test-tube, put one paper clip into the test-tube.
2. Pour some dilute NaClO into a test-tube, put one paper clip into the test-tube.
3. Pour both dilute HCl and NaClO into a plastic container, dangle the third paper clip above the mixture and cover the set-up. 4. Wait till the next day to see the results.
Equation involved:
2HCl (aq) + NaClO (aq) = NaCl (aq) + H2O (l) + Cl2 (g)
Possible mistakes:
1. Both HCl and NaClO are not pure, they actually came from two different toilet cleaners, thus the experiment may not be accurate as there may be other substances in the toilet cleaners that may react with the paper clip and with each other to produce other gases apart from chlorine.

now all we have to do is to wait for tomorrow for the result...
