first things first, LAST friday we had chem practical again and this time was about identification of gases: hydrogen, oxygen, sulfur dioxide and chlorine.

this is blatantly chlorine gas. as u can see the yellowish-green gas within the test tube. and it bleaches both litmus paper at the mouth of the test tube.
this one is supposedly using CuSO4 to catalyse the reaction between Zn and HCl. but then somehow the CuSO4 got reduced to Cu. must ask the teacher about it.
this is me testing for oxygen. see how it rekindles the glowing splint.

this one is using MnO2 as a catalyst to catalyse the breakdown of H2O2 to give H2O and O2. in this photo featuring my two classmates, the O2 gas is trapped within this big MnO2 bubble.

lastly is me again. as Cl2 gas is just too choking i thought of a way to get rid of both the smell and the gas. by adding NH3.H2O (NH4OH) to the test tube with Cl2, NH4Cl is produced, as u can see from the white "smoke". this get rids of the smell and the harmful gas. then all i need to do is to pour it down the sink.
