I remember I developed a love for sweet things in Sec 3. It was probably due to the fact that I always fall asleep during maths class that my mom decided to stuff chocolate into my bag to keep me awake during maths. Then even after I no longer falls asleep like in term 2 or 3, the chocolate in my bag remains to be refilled every morning, so somehow I fell in love with the sweet things. Also, as in term 1 of Sec3 I was too lazy to go to the canteen to buy food during recess, mom stuffed cookies or biscuits for my break as well, so that I don't starve, or in my own words "saving money".
So slowly but surely, my sweet tooth has been developed. Although the chocolate no longer finds itself in my bag, the cookies will appear everyday as long as I'm still in HCI (or maybe even after that), which sometimes lead to mass cookie-snatching contest. But of course that won't stop the cookies from coming into class.
Mom always say my tongue is a "price detector for food", as I only seem to enjoy food that cost more than their regular counterparts. Well it's not exactly my fault, but I'm trying to improve ok. Maybe it's because some brands of sweet food just tastes too "fake" or something.
Whenever my friends see me with a box of cookies in my hands, apart from the usual "give me", they sometimes will say "I'm sure you will get diabetes when you grow old", actually I started saying that first lol. Will I really get diabetes? Actually I don't care much as long as I don't grow fat..which never seems to be happening. So in the end I may be spamming sweet food as usual and pray that diabetes don't snag onto me.
Bought one bottle of glycerol on thursday, partly for use in my experiments. I was actually quite surprised that glycerol tastes so sweet, maybe it's because fat doesn't taste sweet to me and since glycerol comes from breakdown of fats (fats -> fatty acids + glycerol), so I didn't expect it to be sweet. As a matter of fact I couldn't imagine how fatty acids would taste like. Sour? One strange thing about glycerol (or glycerin if you like it better that way) is that when it first touches the tongue, it feels cool (like all liquids at room temperature), but then immediately after that it feels warm. I suppose is because it absorbs water (saliva) on the tongue and gives out heat in the process. I checked glycerol on wikipedia, and it says that as it is not carbohydrate in nature, it does not raise the blood sugar level, and it does not cause tooth decay. So in another words its like taking in sugar that does not cause diabetes no matter how much you take in. Yay that's a new way of feeding my sweet tooth.
