I remembered when I read Lord of the Flies in Sec 2, there was this section near the ending climax of the story about Roger 'sharpened a stick at both ends'. While the supposed meaning of that was that Roger was full of intention of killing Ralph and presenting it to their imaginative tribal god, at that time I always thought Roger had wanted to betray Jack after the kill, and that the stick sharpened at both ends is a symbol of double-crossing. Because you can attack both the people in front (enemies) and behind (allies) you.
